Members update, January 2025

New Years greetings to all ACT Disc Golfers!

I wanted to give a brief run through of what shapes to be another very exciting year for the growth and activities planned in 2025.

Key changes to club days:

  • In 2025 we’ve split competition to now have 4 grades – A, B, C & D.  We’ve made these changes to cater for the growing number of new players and allow the best possible opportunity for equalised competition.
  • We’ll be splitting Weston White and Gold club days to their own specific days to avoid conflict between the 2 layouts & to create more of a unified club feel on the day.
  • Zac James will be heading up club days, but we’re always looking for members who have PA systems for a voice or who want to be involved on the day.  There are plenty of members who can provide assistance and this provides depth of management when we inevitably have a club day conflict with an interstate event.

To support more grades, we’ve restructured the club day prizes and participation costs:

  1. Club day costs
    • Basic club day registration has increased from $6 to $8
    • CTP and Scratch buy-in remain at $2 each
    • Ace pot buy-in remains at $1
  2. Club day winners
    • Grade winners will receive a $20 club voucher
    • CTP winners will receive a $10 club voucher
    • Scratch and Ace pot remain as cash payouts to winners
  3. Season winners
    • 1st place will receive a $40 club voucher
    • 2nd place will receive a $20 club voucher

More details on the grading bands are available on the club day page

Other existing news is the availability of the 2025 members platinum membership option.  This includes all the gold membership options, and also a one off run of a custom shirt designed by our local design and disc dying guru Steven Khoupongsy.

The 2025 ACT Championships is fast approaching and we’re working with sponsors and disc manufactures to make the event as special as possible.  This year we’ve moved the event to the Canberra day long weekend to (hopefully) allow for easier participation from interstate and those having to take time off work.  Registration has been open for 4 days and we’ve got 80/160 spots already registered.

If you are keen be sure to register through Disc Golf Scene

Steven has been busy with the prize discs and artwork 😉

At the end of 2024 you’ll have noticed some quite amazing work from a crew of volunteers lead by Tom Rugg at Eddison Park who’ve installed (I’ve been told) the best tee pad in Australia on hole 5.  We’ve still got 2-3 more tee pads to upgrade in Eddison, so if you’ve got spare time or paving skills, we’d love to hear from you.

Lastly, we’re in the final steps of engagement with ACT Rowing to move Weston Gold hole 10 into the 11b placement.  We’re anticipating this will be completed by the end of January and we’ll be ordering some new tee signs to reflect the new hole numbers in the near future.

Thanks,
Adam Stewart

Members update, August 2024

Greetings ACT Disc Golfers,

In this updated I wanted to touch on:

  • Tournaments
  • Course updates
  • Club vouchers
  • Annual General Meeting
  • Club store surveys

Tournaments

We have 2 active PDGA tournaments open for registration:

The 1st edition of “The Drizzler” featured 58 competitors across 11 divisions, held on a beautiful Canberra winter’s weekend. From the committee’s perspective, the event ran very smoothly, and it was great to see another PDGA event hosted in the nation’s capital.

The club is in a fortunate position, having secured significant sponsor partnerships such as Choices Flooring, Yarralumla Play Station, Disc Connection, and South Side Physio. These partnerships enable us to sustain a high level of tournament play for the foreseeable future.

The club extends its gratitude to Joshua Conroy for successfully running his first tournament as TD.

Weston Park

We have been working with the ACT Government to clean up trees around Weston Park. Notably, the large tree near basket 18 has now been removed. We have also provided a list of other fallen trees that we will address in the coming months.

We recently submitted a proposal to trial different types of tee pad installations on 2-3 holes to assess their durability over time. Due to the land ownership in Weston Park, we must comply with strict planning permissions. Rest assured, we are still exploring options to install permanent tee pads in Weston Park.

Another significant development that may occur at short notice is the installation of boat racks to the right-hand side of basket 10 on the foreshore. The club has been in contact with Rowing ACT and the ACT Government about this proposal and is working through options to maintain 27 holes while ensuring the safety of everyone in the park.

Eddison Park

The new baskets have arrived, and we are now working through the logistics to have an installation plan in place before Spring Sling 2024. We will soon communicate through our social channels, asking for assistance and advising on the timings.

We are also still requesting the removal of the fallen tree near hole 1. As always members of the public can also do this through Fix My Street.

Athllon Park

Next up at Athllon is looking at installing some tee signage. We’ve submitted a proposal through to the ACT Government and are awaiting an assessment before we can proceed any further.

Club Vouchers

The committee have been busy trying to further integrate club vouchers and link them to people’s accounts on the club website. Some of you who are lucky enough can see past and present vouchers assigned to your account under my account > my coupons.

The reason for undertaking this is to reduce the stress and anxiety of losing a voucher and future administrations can easily see which vouchers were issued to who and for what event.

To take advantage of this feature all you have to do is create an account on the ACT Disc Golf website and we can link up the voucher for you. For anyone who has an existing voucher and cannot see this listed, please reach out to the club and we can look into why.

Annual General Meeting

We are planning to have our AGM on Monday 21st of October at 7pm. The location is still being decided, but official notice will be sent to all members by the end of the week, and we will post further information through our social channels.

Club store surveys

I’ve recently sent out a survey on the ACT Disc Golf Shop and what manufactures you wanted to see. We saw the largest responses for Innova, Discraft & Discmania, but closely followed by Lat64 & MVP.

I’ll send out a survey for each of these manufactures to see what moulds people would be interested in with a view to including them in our next round of orders.
